Impaired Driving Initiatives
Funded through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Impaired Driving Initiatives' programs aim to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce traffic-related health care and other economic costs by training and certifying Texas law enforcement officers as Drug Recognition Experts (DREs). Officers who undergo DRE training become skilled in detecting and identifying persons under the influence of drugs and in identifying the category or categories of drugs causing the impairment. IDI features programs for law enforcement, schools, employers and probation/parole officers. The The Marketing Department provides extensive support to the web site, including updates and maintainance, marketplace for programs and merchandise, and new forms and applications. The web site is located here.
